Within the Ecole Centrale de Nantes, the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (GeM) is a joint research unit of Nantes University, Centrale Nantes and the CNRS. Its aim is to bring together within a single laboratory all the expertise of the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire metropolitan area in the fields of civil engineering, materials and process mechanics, and structural mechanics modelling and simulation.
Job description:
We are looking for someone to carry out research activities in process engineering and bioprocesses on an 8-month fixed-term contract.
Your main tasks will be as follows:
Develop, optimise and manage the bioprecipitation process on concrete test tubes using the existing demonstrator.
Monitor and analyse the biological and physicochemical parameters of the cultures (biomass growth, ion concentrations, dissolved carbon, pH, etc.).
Design and test alternative formulations (including materials from construction waste) for the production of bioprecipitate.
Work closely with project members to ensure the transfer of samples and the coordination of characterisation campaigns (chemistry, mechanics, durability).
Promote the results through scientific publications, conference presentations and communications with industry.
Secondary activities and tasks of the position:
Participate in the maintenance, adaptation and safety of the experimental demonstrator.
Contribute to the drafting of technical reports, deliverables and administrative documents for the project.
Occasional supervision of interns or master's students involved in certain experimental tasks.
Job requirements
Professional skills:
Development and optimisation of biological processes
Management and monitoring of microbial/microalgal cultures
Monitoring and analysis of physical and chemical parameters
Scientific writing (articles, reports, deliverables)
Technical skills:
Analytical measurements (pH, DIC, ions, spectro, etc.)
Bioprocess safety protocols

Required level : The candidate must hold a PhD (8 years of higher education) in process engineering, bioprocess engineering, biotechnology or a related discipline, and have solid knowledge of applied microbiology, biological processes and/or biomineralisation. Experience or skills in the fields of cementitious materials, the marine environment or microalgae cultivation processes would be an asset.
