Within the École Centrale de Nantes, the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (GeM) is a joint research unit of Nantes University, Centrale Nantes and the CNRS. Its aim is to bring together within a single laboratory all the expertise available in the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire metropolitan area in the fields of civil engineering, materials and process mechanics, and structural mechanics modelling and simulation.
As part of a 12-month fixed-term contract, we are looking for someone to carry out WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) process development activities. This work will be carried out as part of the MT-ROBOTICS collaborative project, funded by Bpifrance via the ‘France 2030’ plan, which aims to develop a hybrid additive manufacturing machine and its complete digital chain.
Your main tasks will be as follows:
Prepare and carry out manufacturing experiments using the WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) process on a robotic cell.
Design, implement and analyse experimental plans using the WAAM process.
Develop and validate WAAM manufacturing parameters
Implement manufacturing strategies (ranges) for the production of demonstrators
Calibrate and implement sensors for monitoring the WAAM process and analyse data from experiments
Generate WAAM trajectories in the CAD/CAM software environment
Characterise the deposits obtained through metallographic and mechanical preparations and analyses
Analyse and interpret the results obtained, write reports and associated deliverables
Prepare and present the results for project meetings and team meetings
