Job description

Centrale Nantes is a prestigious engineering school which awards degrees to engineers, Master’s students and PhD candidates upon completion of academic programmes based on the very latest developments in science and technology and on best management practices.

As a member of the Groupe des Écoles Centrales (Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Paris), our school provides high-quality education for highly selective students.

A public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Centrale Nantes has over 2,250 students, 500 staff members and 600 part-time lecturers.

Job description:

A postdoctoral position is available within the LS2N laboratory. The aim will be to determine, based on energy, economic and grid conditions, when the vehicle should be used primarily to meet the household’s needs and when it can be utilised to provide services to the grid.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows:

  • To develop predictive, multi-objective energy management strategies for V2H and V2G modes.

  • To maximise the economic and environmental benefits of V2H.

  • To make the best use of photovoltaic generation and prioritise periods of low electricity costs for charging.

  • Use EVs to provide services to the grid, in particular by modulating active power and, where technically feasible, reactive power.

  • Contribute to grid stability and power quality, whilst complying with applicable electrical constraints, particularly those relating to the injection of direct current.

  • Minimise deep discharge cycles and stress on the battery, incorporating its ageing into the management strategy where possible.

  • Develop a coordinated management approach to balance the needs of the home, V2G services, mobility requirements and battery preservation.
